From Lifelong Swimmer to Triathlon Titan: A Journey to Recover Like a Pro
Meet Jessica, one of our own team members at Mountain Home Center. You might see her in the showroom, but on the weekends, you’ll find her swimming across Donner Lake, biking through the mountains, or running the Tahoe trails. She’s training for a triathlon, and she’s using our showroom’s wellness tools as her ultimate recovery secret.
We sat down with Jessica to learn about her motivation, her demanding training schedule, and how professional-grade recovery is giving her an edge—not just in sport, but in life.
The Spark: A Lifetime of Adventure
For Jessica, athletics are a part of her DNA. “My parents said I could swim before I could walk,” she shares. From the swim team at age four to a state-champion cross-country team in high school, the drive to compete has always been there. It was the multi-sport atmosphere of Lake Tahoe that inspired her to take on the ultimate challenge: the triathlon.
“I missed the adventure,” she says. “I took a triathlon training course to fill college credits, and I was hooked.”
The Routine: Training Hard, Recovering Smarter
To prepare her body for the grueling combination of swimming, biking, and running, Jessica follows a structured plan based on the renowned Huberman Lab’s Foundational Fitness Protocols. This includes a mix of long endurance, resistance training, and HIIT workouts. But the key, she’s discovered, is a dedicated recovery practice.
“After my long weekend workouts, recovery is my priority,” she explains. “That means a 30-minute sauna session followed by an invigorating cold plunge. It’s the perfect combination to reset my body for the week ahead.”
The Tools: Finding the Perfect Recovery Method
Jessica uses our entire suite of wellness products, the Hot Spring Aria, Tylo InfraSauna and Vigor Cold Plunge tailoring each one to a specific need.
The Hot Tub: For Instant Relief and Deep Sleep
After a lower-intensity workout like an e-bike ride home from work or a paddleboard session, Jessica turns to the hot tub.
- Her Take: “The jets are great on everything. My back always needs a good massage, and the hot tub seems to be the next best thing. Getting the jets on my calves and quads helps tremendously with soreness the next day. Best of all, it puts me right to sleep like a baby.”
The Sauna: For Mental and Physical Balance
The sauna has become Jessica’s favorite recovery tool. It’s more than just physical; it’s a mental reset.
- Her Take: “The sauna provides solitude and time to read, which is hard to come by in my schedule. The combination of training and dedicated recovery is a great opportunity for physical and mental balance. I just feel good, and I’m meeting my training goals.”
The Cold Plunge: For Energy and Resilience
The cold plunge was the final piece of her recovery puzzle. While intimidating at first, it now provides a unique, powerful boost.
- Her Take: “It’s still intimidating, but the fear turns into excitement and fun. It’s a hard challenge you can control. I’ve learned to use breathwork to center myself before I get in. Afterwards, my body feels great and I feel energetic—it’s like a vibration of energy that stays with me.”
The Lesson: You Don’t Have to Train Like a Pro to Recover Like One
Jessica’s journey is a powerful reminder that recovery is not a luxury; it’s an essential part of a healthy, active life. Whether you’re an athlete or simply navigating the daily grind, these tools can fundamentally improve your well-being.
“Life is a workout,” Jessica wisely puts it. “These products can improve circulation, muscle recovery, inflammation, energy, sleep, and mood. A major purchase like this is a commitment to your health.”
